13 easy steps

1) DO YOU NEED A DOMAIN NAME?
If you run a business or any kind of organisation then the simple answer is YES.
Any credible business or other organisation needs its own domain name.

For larger businesses, or those with larger aspirations, a “.com” would be best, however many of those have already been taken. A “.co.uk” would be a good alternative.
Domain name registration (.com) - e.g. - www.theweeshop.com - £70 for 2 years
Domain name registration (.co.uk) - e.g. - www.theweeshop.co.uk - £50 for 2 years
Other alternatives (.net, .org, etc) are available at similar costs.
Please be aware that registration fees are ongoing ;
“.com” - £35 per year “.co.uk” - £25 per year.

2) HOW MANY PAGES WILL YOUR SITE NEED?
A site can consist of as many or as few pages as you wish. Firstly try to imagine what your site could look like, what information, photos and illustrations you would want, and how this could be broken down into pages or sections. A good idea is then to try to sketch out your site using standard A4 size sheets of paper - this should give you an idea of how many pages your web site needs.
Each page includes up to 6 photos or illustrations per page.
The length of each page & amount of text in each page will be decided during the design process.

3) GATHER INFORMATION, WRITE TEXT & SUPPLY PHOTOS/ILLUSTRATIONS.
Please supply photos & illustrations, if you can, by any number of separate e-mails (separate attachments) or on a computer disk. Please supply text by e-mail (attached Word Documents are fine) or on a computer disk. Large amounts of handwritten notes will incur a small extra charge (£20 per hour).

4) DECIDE ON THE HOSTING OF YOUR WEBSITE
The hosting of your website is crucial to its success. If you host it with me I will have full control over the look and operation of the site, this will not always be the case if it is hosted by your internet service provider or a third party. We do not charge for the first years hosting. After the first year you will be invoiced for £30 per year (a fixed charge - guaranteed not to increase).

5) THINK ABOUT THE “LOOK” OR “STYLE” OF YOUR SITE.
Give me a brief idea of how your site should look. (Using example sites is fine).
You are free to choose backgrounds, colours, layouts, text styles, etc.

Alternatively, I'll give you some design options to choose from.

6) THE DETAILED DESIGN OF YOUR SITE
The nitty-gritty. This part of the job can take a day or so (for smaller sites) or a couple of days (for larger sites). During this time we will be in regular contact with you ironing out the details.

7) TEST SITE
When the design stage is nearing completion, I will upload a test site to my webspace to allow you to see the site in operation. At this stage changes can easily be made.

8) ARRANGE & IMPLEMENT LINKS TO OTHER SITES
If you can supply me with the names of other websites you want too link to, so much the better. This will help drive traffic to your site.

9) INCLUDE KEYWORDS & METATAGS AND UPLOAD COMPLETED WEBSITE
When you are happy with the design & performance of your website I will include any keywords & metatags (words which describe your business or apply to your site) and upload the completed website. These keywords will help search engines to find and list your site.

10) REGISTER YOUR SITE WITH SEARCH ENGINES - GOOGLE, YAHOO, MSN, etc.
The best way to boost traffic to your site, however the results of this process can take a few months to become apparent.

11) UPDATE YOUR SITE IF & WHEN REQUIRED
Keep it fresh, introduce new features. New Pages - £90 each. All other work - £20 per hour.

12) PUBLICISE THE COMPLETED WEBSITE
We will both be involved. I will publicise your website wherever possible on the internet and you can be publicising your website address on letterheads, business cards, etc, and on any of your own promotional literature.

13) ENJOY THE BENEFITS

Relax and enjoy the fact that you have, at the very least, an online brochure publicising your business.
